Short Contemporary (previously called Series Contemporary): manuscripts intended for submission to one of the Harlequin category romance lines or similar, final MS length est. 50,000 – 70,000 words.
Single Title Contemporary: manuscripts intended for submission to a single title publishing house; final MS length est. > 80,000 words.
Historical: manuscripts in which the action takes place previous to 1945:
Paranormal: manuscripts which include paranormal elements, time travels, or futuristics
Novel with Strong Romantic Elements: manuscripts in which romance is a strong, but not primary, theme; e.g. chick lit, women’s fiction
Romantic Suspense: story line includes significant external conflict and danger, a villain as the antagonist, and a commensurate level of tension and intrigue.
